Doubt only surrenders to experience

I saw this quote today on Seth’s blog and it reminded me of my step 2 & 3 experience.

Drink enough water and you will cease to be thirsty.

And yet, a doubting person can be drowning in facts, but facts won’t change a mind that doesn’t want to be changed. More facts don’t counter more doubt. Someone who is shaking his head, arms folded, eyes squinted and ears closed isn’t going to be swayed by more facts.

Instead, doubt surrenders to experience. And experience can only happen if there’s enrollment.

As much as I wanted to believe again, for the sake of my recovery, the doubts wouldn’t go away. Despite the facts, I couldn’t let go. My sponsor gave me great advice. Just move forward with the actions of faith, and then the feeling of faith will come later.

That’s all it took.

Now I have a new experience to back up my faith.
